A poster exhibition entitled "Frontiers in Physics" was launched
on 15 January 2005. With the joint effect of the Department of Physics
at the Hong Kong Baptist University, Chinese University of Hong Kong,
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the University of
Hong Kong, the Department of Applied Physics at the Hong Kong
Polytechnic University, and the Department of Physics and Materials
Science at the City University of Hong Kong, the exhibition aims at
introducing to students and teachers the excitement of modern physics and
some of the research work carried out in Hong Kong by local physicists. |

Over 400 participants, mostly secondaray school students and teachers, attended the Opening Ceremony and Opening Talk of the Lecture Series organized by the Physical Society of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Science Museum on 15 January 2005. |

The Chief Curator, Mr. Yip Chee Kuen, of the Hong Kong Science Museum gave a welcoming speech. Mr. Yip, who is a physicist in training, shared his experience in using his physics knowledge in different aspects of his job. |

Professor Pak Ming Hui, the President of the Physical Society of
Hong Kong, welcomed and addressed the audience on the background of the
International Year of Physics 2005 and on activities organized by the
PSHK. |

Professor Paul Chu, a world-renowned physicist and the President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, delivered the opening speech of the year-round Lecture Series. Prof. Chu stressed that a training in physics can lead to diversified career paths and physics is a part of daily life. |

The Opening Talk of the Lecture Series was delivered by Professor Bambi HU, Chair Professor of Physics and Head of the Department of Physics at the Hong Kong Baptist University, on the title "1905: The Year Einstein Changed the World". |

The opening talk attracted a big crowd, more than the lecture
hall could handle. Some participants were directed to the classroom in
the Science Museum to listen to the talk via simultaneous broadcast. |

Even the classroom could not hold the crowd. Participants
listened to the talk in the Museum's laboratory. |

Professor gave an overview on Einstein's life, contributions to science, and his legacy in the opening talk. |
